With the unique DIR® measuring system, we at the Habios clinic are able to detect bite defects early on and initiate the appropriate therapy measures.
The DIR (Dynamics Intraoral Registration) system determines the optimum bite - that is to say, the ideal position of the lower jaw in relation to the upper jaw. This procedure is known as instrument-based functional diagnosis.
We measure the effect of forces in the mouth and use the data obtained from this to create a bite splint that brings the lower jaw into the desired position.
This removable bite splint (also known as a DIR splint) is made of invisible plastic and only covers the side teeth of the lower jaw. The adjustment to the position means an optimum bite is restored and the masticatory muscles are able to relax. Over time, this muscle relaxation relieves all the problems that were caused by the poorly distributed mastication forces.
After successful therapy with the DIR splint, further treatment may be needed to ensure long-term success.
